This style was typically used for transportation-related facilities, such as bus stations, rail terminals, and airports. It is inspired by aerodynamic design: curving forms, rounded corners, long horizontal lines, and subdued pastel colors. Streamline Moderne is a sub category of the Art Moderne style. This style remains a trendy look because it designs the future. A recent restoration saw the interiors updated and two new wings added in keeping with the buildings original design. This home, known as The Quarterdeck, was designed by architect Glynn Nicholls and built in 1959. With a timeless appeal, the style is defined with clean lines, minimal orientations, high functionality, and organic forms. Here we take a look at some of our favourite mid-century modern homes, and newly built homes inspired by mid-century style. Instead, Art Moderne buildings feature a more streamlined and austere design. The Mid-century modern architectural style became popular in the 1940s and still has not left, but it's not unusual for styles in another era to come back. It was developed just after Art Deco but was soon overtaken by International Style. The Art Moderne style enjoyed a brief period of popularity. Stylized geometric decorative details using parallel straight lines, zigzags, chevrons and floral motifs are a hallmark of Art Deco style. In its heyday, Art Deco represented luxury, glamour, and technological progress. They began incorporating many new styles, such as Cubism, Fauvism, and even Chinese, Indian, Persian, and Mayan vernacular styles. It appeared in France just before World War I, and it acted as a transition between the traditional and modern styles. During this period, architects and artists made a conscious break with past revival precedents, such as Gothic Revival, Colonial Revival, and Greek Revival. Art Deco was the first truly international and modern style to come out of Europe.
